Janice Sharp
Jan Sharp is a retired Ph.D. chemist who worked in the Agricultural Chemistry industries for 29 years focusing on environmental science and regulations. She has participated in the Monarch Larva Monitoring Program for the last 10 years, monitoring two sites of two different kinds of milkweed, in a forested region of northern Wisconsin (yes milkweed is all over forests). Since retiring 4 years ago, she has become a full time citizen scientists participating in a number of different bird surveys, bumble bee monitoring, and more recently volunteering with a local Natural History Museum on development of last year’s native bee “Bee Amazed” and this year’s “Pollinator Power” exhibits educating both children and adults on the importance of our native pollinators. Her hobby, beyond these projects, is continuing to improve and develop the native flowering plants in her MLMP plots that supports not only the Monarchs but other native pollinators, birds and bats.
