Liz Goehring
Secretary
Liz is a retired ecology educator and program developer with over 25 years of experience working in corporate, academic, and public education settings. She started as a systems analyst/knowledge-based systems consultant with IBM before following her passion for ecology and teaching. Liz was a charter member of the UM Monarch Lab, conducting research focused on understanding environmental factors triggering diapause in monarchs and helping develop the Monarchs in the Classroom curriculum. She has worked with students of all ages in the classroom, online, and in natural settings and specializes in bringing ecology to life, developing curricula that feature current research (e.g., deep-sea ecosystems) and citizen science (e.g., JourneyNorth, MonarchWatch, Project BudBurst, GLOBE). In recent years she developed and managed an undergraduate science and engineering internship program with the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). Since retirement, she has organized and led a Green Team as part of Denver’s Sustainable Neighborhood Network and conducts MLMP and IMMP training along the Colorado Front Range, helping to better understand the monarch’s use of this region.
