Luis Osorio
Science & Monitoring Associate
Luis is an AmeriCorps Member with the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa. The Conservation Corps engages youth and young adults in meaningful service, leadership development, and environmental stewardship. As a Remote Sensing Field Technician Specialist in his year of service with the Monarch Joint Venture, Luis assists with surveying pollinator habitat on public and private land across the Midwest. He uses both the Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) and cutting-edge remote sensing technology to quantify the density of common milkweed and other pollinator-friendly plants.
Luis was born and raised in a small town in Gurrero, México, when he was 12, he immigrated with his parents to the United States. He grew up surrounded by nature, which played a big role in his interest in protecting the natural world. He recently graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a B.A in Environmental Science with an emphasis on biology. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, painting, listening to different podcasts and exploring the outdoors (hiking, fishing, camping).
