As the monarchs congregate in their overwintering habitats, the Monarch Joint Venture’s North American monarch conservation efforts gain momentum. The severe decline of the iconic monarch butterfly continues to draw attention from a diversity of partners. In 2017, MJV grew to 75 partner organizations. Our partnership is working together to scale-up monarch conservation efforts to reach sustainable overwintering population levels. It is a huge feat, but growing partnerships and innovative thinking provide hope that we can meet the challenge ahead – especially with your help!
With a rapidly growing demand for information, native wildflower seeds and plants, strategic coordination, and more, monarch conservation needs your support now more than ever.
Donors like you ensure MJV can continue to build and support a network of partners who are doing amazing work to raise awareness, contribute to our scientific understanding of monarchs and their habitat, and be the ‘boots-on-the-ground’ planting and maintaining habitat. The work of our partners enact the objectives of the national Monarch Conservation Implementation Plan, updated by the MJV each year. We provide a foundation for teamwork and efficiency in our nation’s efforts to achieve monarch population and habitat targets through strategic prioritization and guidance using this plan.
Our strong coalition of federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and businesses allows us to work on all scales to promote monarch conservation. We do so in four major ways: information, coordination, partnership, and implementation.
- The MJV is the centralized information clearinghouse that brings partners or individuals from various backgrounds to the resources they need to get involved.
- We coordinate and prioritize habitat, education, and research actions to improve efficiency and are recruiting partners to help achieve those objectives.
- We foster networking, facilitate collaboration, and highlight successes to inspire innovative conservation projects and partnerships to strengthen a nationwide effort to save monarchs.
- MJV staff and partners implement monarch education and outreach, research and monitoring and habitat conservation actions. Each year, MJV financially supports priority objectives, which you can read about on our website.
We have a unique moment in time to make a real difference for monarch butterflies and the ecosystems that support them. Monarch conservation is about more than monarchs; supporting monarch conservation brings added benefits to support improving soil health, water quality, and habitat for other wildlife. Your contribution will directly benefit monarchs by supporting national strategic priorities. We hope you will continue your support for our efforts by donating today.
Thank you for playing a critical role in this important conservation issue. Our success is made possible by supporters like you. Every gift will help more monarchs take flight!
Sincerely,
Wendy Caldwell
MJV Coordinator
