The Monarch Joint Venture is thrilled to collaborate with Kansas City Southern (KCS), our newest partner. KCS is a transportation holding company with railroad investments in the U.S., Mexico and Panama. Their railway system stretches from the central and south-central U.S. to northeastern and central Mexico and the port cities of Lazaro Cardenas, Tampico and Veracruz. KCS’ North American rail holdings and strategic alliances with other North American rail partners are primary components of a unique railway system, linking the commercial and industrial centers of the U.S., Mexico and Canada. As a significant land-owner, concessionaire, and railroad operator across the monarchs’ flyways and overwintering areas, KCS, like the monarch, is a symbol of North American integration. Recently KCS has been proud to support overwintering areas in Mexico through reforestation efforts and looks forward to further development of a Monarch Depot concept which will provide habitat islands across the KCS railway system.

The Monarch Joint Venture is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and a national partnership of federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, businesses and academic programs working together to conserve the monarch butterfly migration.
