The MJV is pleased to share that Moraga Garden Club has joined the partnership. The focus of the Moraga Garden Club (MGC) is to create and maintain visual beauty throughout Moraga, to contribute to civic participation, conservation, and education. The idea for MGC germinated around a kitchen table in 1970, and since then has been and continues to be a resource for all levels of garden enthusiasts in and around Moraga, California.

In 2021, MGC began implementing their Moraga for Monarchs conservation effort. In collaboration with the town of Moraga, the club built a 2,600 square foot monarch habitat demonstration garden in a public park, began implementing outreach programs and providing the community with monarch-specific plant and seed materials. The demonstration garden was officially celebrated by the community June 5, 2022 and is adorned with a majestic six foot bronze and copper monarch wings sculpture suitable for selfies, a mosaic caterpillar, and interpretive signage. It also features native milkweed and nectar plants, most of which were grown by MGC. A new seed library, community presentations, tours for groups of all ages, citizen science monitoring, and the signing of the Mayors Monarch Pledge help MGC keep monarchs top of mind within their community.

Monarch Joint Venture is delighted to be partnering with an organization embracing the “all hands on deck” approach to western monarch and pollinator conservation. To learn more about Moraga Garden Club and their initiative, Moraga for Monarchs, please visit:
