The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is seeking proposals for funding from their Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund to protect, conserve and increase habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators. This is a phenomenal opportunity for Monarch Joint Venture partners, as well as other organizations who contribute to restoring monarchs and the migratory phenomenon. Please help us spread the word about this request.
The Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund was established by NFWF in 2015, and focuses on three priorities to restore monarch butterflies to a more robust and healthy population:
- Native seed production and distribution to increase production and availability of seeds and plants essential to habitat restoration.
- Habitat restoration to plant native milkweed for caterpillars and nectar plants for adults in both large, contiguous areas as well as in smaller patches, especially in edge habitat along the butterfly’s migration route.
- Organizational coordination and capacity to organizations, states, and regions to ensure efficiency the use and sharing of best practices
The Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund will invest in both short-term (habitat restoration) and long-term solutions (sustainable seed supply and organizational capacity).
Submit requests between May 29th and July 15th 2015 through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Easygrants system. Approximately $3.8 Million is available in the first year of the Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund. Grants may be up to two years in length and will generally range in size from $50,000 to $250,000. Matching funds of at least 1:1 will be required. Awards will be announced in November 2015.
Monarch Joint Venture partners work on an incredible array of monarch butterfly conservation projects and programs, and we hope that our partners and connections will be able to benefit from this new resource.
