Fort McCoy is home to one of the largest remaining populations of the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly. Their Natural Resources program is exemplary and conducts thousands of acres of land management actions that benefit Karner blue butterflies and numerous other pollinators, including the monarchs.
Through the support of the DoD, MJV staff conducted IMMP on the installation and suitable habitat determination maps for monarchs in all of their stages. Additionally, due to Fort McCoy’s extensive experience with pollinators, the MJV will be developing BMPs based on their existing practices.
